Little White Flags
04:11
|
|||
There's a man
A stick to his face
And he's staring, at you and me.
There are pictures, of some far off place.
And bullets that we will never feel and
We will never see
And you said I don't mind, no I will not worry any more
But then these planes keep crashing over heads and falling to the floor
And you said I won't mind, no I will not worry any more
But there are people on the TV fighting, what are they fighting for?
There are flowers, shining like the sun
But they're turning their faces away
From these remains, each one someone
Who's waiting to be sent home today
And you said I don't mind, no I will not worry any more
But then these planes keep crashing over heads and falling to the floor
And you said I won't mind, no I will not worry any more
But there are leaders on the TV smiling, what are they smiling for?
There are little white flags, little white flags, little white flags
For every life, that hit the ground.
There are toys in fields, toys in fields, toys in fields
And bodies, waiting to be found.
And you say I can't handle this now
And I don't know what to say
But things like this happen every day
And there are little white flags, little white flags, little white flags
For every life, that hit the ground.
There are toys in fields, toys in fields, toys in fields
And secrets, wanting to be found.

Don't Remember
03:55
|
|||
So I'm falling asleep and then I’m asleep and I’m falling
And hearing all these voices and suddenly I’m recalling
All these broken memories
Like worn out tapes and scratched CDs
Are they mine?
Because these things never play as clear as when they’re brand new
My mind is full of all these drawings someone else drew
And I want to stop this desperation
Worn out feeling of frustration
Are they mine?
Because I don’t think so
Well not right now
I was never certain
Anyhow
I can’t tell you
Well not today
I don’t remember…
So I’m lying in the bed of someone I know quite well
With my eyes closed just so I’d say that I look quite peaceful
But eyes can only trick and fool you
I wake up I scream I Call You
Are you fine?
Because I don’t think so
Well not right now
I was never certain
Anyhow
I can’t tell you
Well not today
I don’t remember
Anyway

A Simple Mistake
03:44
|
|||
It might be surprising
But I’m still awake
And I’ve just remembered
A simple mistake
A look in your eye
Your lips as they break
A trick of the light
A simple mistake
Some misinformation
Just a simple mistake
A moment of madness
It’s probably nothing
My mind’s in a state
And you weren’t to know this
A simple mistake
A misread intention
I was hasty to take
Forgive my excitement
A simple mistake
And forgive all these ramblings
That keep me awake
And though you can’t hear them
They keep me awake
The silence remind me
A simple mistake
The silence that keeps these
Strange voices awake
Your silence...

She stares out the window
Sees the boats, sees the docks
Sees waves trying to disappear
Like pages torn from a book
Then cast to the wind
Just to break on a rock
While he drowns his sorrows
And looks at the clock
But he knows that it’s too late
The boat lurches then rocks
And he almost had to wait.
She told her self this story
Enough times for it to be true
Now all that separates them
Is that black Atlantic blue
Which is scrawled out between them
Claiming a life that can change and renew
She hears her father’s voice
In the gloom
He takes off his belt and tells her
“I can show you something true”
And she always had to wait.
Now she still sits by that window
She’s anchored to her blood
The dockyard’s just a memory
Which has thickened to mud
While an organ grinder sparks
A feeling she never understood
Her mother’s voice calls out to her
What she would and should and could
If she’d only found her partner
Joined the Arc
Braved the flood
She’d never have to wait.

Weird Kind of Hatred
05:18
|
|||
It started a year ago or so
I don't know when exactly
But I know where precisely
And that is something I will never disclose
You took my hand
Put it to your pocket
Put your own to your heart
You thought I could unlock it
Then a strange fear gripped me
And never let me go
Now it's a weird kind of hatred we need
A weird kind of life that we lead
A weird kind of hatred we share
A fair-weathered lovers' despair
A weird kind of hatred
You wanted something you know that I couldn't provide
Completely and lord knows I tried
Well... maybe I didn't try hard enough
And honesty, I suppose, is something
It's not much but it's better than nothing
And I don't suppose that this song will change anything
But it's a weird kind of hatred we share
A love that can never compare
A weird kind of hatred we need
You smile but we'll never be freed
From this weird kind of hatred we share
A fair-weathered lovers' despair
A weird kind of hatred we need
A weird kind of life that we lead
A weird kind of hatred
And I hope that you don't forget me
And I hope that you can forgive me
And I want to mean this sincerely
But I know that you can't let me
